Challenge
For their exclusive whiskey tasting experience in the iconic Tower of London, Royal Salute wanted to create an immersive, interactive experience that served to both communicate their brand's history & uniqueness, as well as adding depth to the explanations of their distilling process and tasting notes for their whiskeys.
Mission
Bring their brand to life in an intimate setting with an interactive, anamorphic table projection.
Solution
To bring their unique story to life, we needed to dig into the intricacies of the brand. Distilling their numerous brand documents, as well as employee interviews, we built a picture of Royal Salute's storied history, generating a tone script & mood visuals to help illuminate the first part of our story.
Breaking the brand film out into an individual element, we also worked to define the 2 other parts of our experience; an interactive content piece that served to describe the different steps in bringing Royal Salute's whiskeys to life, as well as an interactive tasting element where users could place their glasses on the table to reveal flavour notes.
Interactivity and theatre was to play a key role in this experience; to this end, we fitted our key props (bottles, glasses, and even their fabled Vault Lock) with NFC chips, which could be read by the table to trigger key moments in the experience.
Leading the conceptualisation, I aimed to draw up an initial vision end-to-end relatively early on in the process, recording temp voiceovers, alongside animated scamps and rudimentary sound design, to serve as the basis to communicate the vision and move the experience forward.
When it came to production, I worked closely with both the production, artist & client teams, guiding the client through intricate feedback workshops and helping to manage the client's ambition against the practicalities of the delivery.
As well as the incredible VFX & Motion work from the team, sound also played an integral part of this project; working with our sound designer, a rich soundscape was formed across both the linear and interactive parts of the experience.
